I'm looking at this Matchless to buy, but it is kick start. I have a spare enging w. electric start. My question is: will the electric starter motor bolt-on the the Harris Rotax engine easily? Will I need extra parts? Both are Rotax 504E 500cc engines. Danke, as always gentlemen.

But it is long time ago i saw this bike life.

These were offered by Harris originally with or with/out electric start. Maybe frames were different, but I don't think so. Do not know for sure...........

Hi Donny,

it may be the same frame, so it should be possible to install the electric start. But it wouldn´t be necessary, You know it´s easy to kick on a Rotax engine
More info to this very nice bike: http://www.motorbikespecs.net/index.dyn ... =Matchless

Thanks for the link Carsten. I see that electric start was offered starting in 1988; this G80 is a 1987. I do kickstart my SilverStar in the summer no problem, but it is a bear to start when it is cold sometimes. I do like the electric start since I'm getting older now. :( I think the sprag clutch pieces and start motor wil bolt on okay, but the electric starter switch and harness on the handlebar would also have to be wired in. Perhaps an MZ switch assembly/wiring could be used.

Hi,

why not asking the seller to make a photo of the right side of the engine and the front part of the frame?

Here you can see how it should look like (it's from the website mentioned above):

Maybe the frame is the same, but i don't think they used the same engine block.

Richard

I agree to Donny, that a Rotax MZ in cold condition may be hard to kick into live. However I have kicked several KTM with Rotax and all of them started easily with the kickstarter. The reason may be the air system, the carburator and the inlet lug which fits not perfect the Rotax engine.
