Hi,

I'm about to wire in a Powerdynamo on my ETZ250. Two questions:

Is it worth wiring a large diode in series to prevent accidental mis-wiring of + and - of the battery in future? Ie something to idiot-proof replacing the battery in a few years or tinkering with the electrics and accidentally short something? Is one diode enough or something more somewhere to protect the delicate circuitry?

Secondly, what's the estimated life of the Powerdynamo - are there any spares (of the Powerdynamo bits) worth carrying if touring or is that not necessary?

Thanks

Regular there will be no support for Powerdynamo by the MZ-Forum, because of some differences inbetween.

I am sure Edgar from PD will answer your questions if you write or phone him.

Hi guys.
I have a question about timing of Vape powerdynamo ignition:

borowed image:
Bild

How many of you are driving with ignition timing as recommended ( 2,75 mm to 3,00 mm before top dead center)??
Current ignition timing on my ES 250/2 is 2 mm and if I retard it to 2.75 mm as recommended the motorcycle loses performance

Fuel today has higher octane rating then in the past(The higher the octane number, the more compression the fuel can withstand before detonating (igniting).

Maybe this was the reason why old mz ignitions had to be adjusted to 2,75 mm to 3,00 mm btdc and nowdays because of higher octane fuel the ignition should be more˝in advance˝(less than 2.75mm btdc) ??

give me your thoughts and experience

That's not completely true, especially not in a two-stroke-engine, and not for nowadays pump-fuel.
Next thing: If you were right, you could adjust MORE pre-ignition than with low-octane-fuel.
Did you ever use a stroboscope, to look what ignition-timing you have in reality? My TS250-1-engine is running perfectly with 2,75mm bdtc, so I suppose a adjustment-problem.

Cheers,
Hans

Thanks for reply Hans.

I havent´t tried it with stroboscope jet...

But...correct me if I am wrong:
The stroboscope pistol/light will only tell me if the spark happens at the moment when line/marking on stator and rotor align?
The ignition can still be at 1.5 mm bdtc or at 3mm bdtc / it will not tell me what is the best position for engine?

You can put your own marking on the base plate of the powerdynamo to check if the ignition timing is correct. For example the 2,75 mm and the stroboscope will tell you if the timing corresponds with the marking...

Sorry, didn't read here since.
Like Güsi said: Measure and mark your own marks, then you will know...
