I think, the better cycle is the ETZ251, because it hast 12Volt-Elektrik. If there ist a Vape-12 volt-ignition in the TS250/1 this will be the better one! The charakteristik of the TS-engine is better for long trips. It needs less gasoline than the ETZ251.
It´s not a big difference, hear to your heart, that will be the best! :ja:

i think 12 Volt is neccesarry for a long trip, because you get the 6 Volt lamps very seldom and when you get in the dark...
I have a special "Regler" (i don´t know the english word  ) wich makes with the original ignition 12 Volt/110Watt. This part build a friend of mine for me, idont know anything about elektronik  If you want one, i ask my friend to build another one and i can send it to you .

How long is the trip, your'e planning? Where do you come from? Of course you can´t find 6v bulbs everywhere, but with some spare that shouln't be a problem IMHO.

If you are restoring the ETZ251 I favorite the TS for a longer trip.

Thanks for all the great offers...:)....I am from Landskrona in Sweden, and i am planning to go visit the MZ-factory and then go west and up north against Hamburg. But i should really not make any differens if using 6 or 12 volt for the bike, the most important should be that it has good condition right?

That´s right, the conditoin of the bike is most important. But with the 6Volt you have Problems with genuine-parts and its week, only 60 Watt, i think, it isn´t enough for riding in big towns where you must often flash ore brake and drive in germany even at the days with headlight on. 12 Volt is more powerfull (120Watt!) and you get bulbs in avery gasoline-filling-station.

Hi Frederik,
where do you come from and how long is the Distance of your Trip?
Which bike do you prefer for your own ?
Is the ETZ 251 with Disc Brake? If not , both bikes are absolut comparable.
At the end the ETZ 251 is a little bit better because of the higher capacity of the
12V electric system, may be.

The ETZ is with discbrake, my only concern is that if the electronic-ignition on the ETZ fails is it not easy to fix, but the TS has points that is easier to fix if they fails on the road.

When there is the origina-MZ-elektronic-ignition build in then you can go back to ther roots and build in the old ignition. I have at my 251er done so! No problem.

mate, no one can answer this question but you. you could toss a coin, and both of the bikes might still let you down. an intuitive decision just before departure might do the trick, though... :)

personally i'd go for the older one, 'cause you earn more sympathy of the punters along the way ;) (...used to have one of those etcetc...)

g max ~:)

Perhapes you shall montain the better front-brake (disk-brake?) from the 251 for this trip into your TS250? Good brakes are a "live-insurance" :ja:
You want to travel far with an heavy loadet bike, i belive a disk-brake is necessary

If the electric system is in good condition, it doesnt matter if 6V or 12V. In Spring time (I understand it will be April or May, and I would prefere May), you will ride almost at daylight and need your light only as "position light"
And if you will get technical trouble, you will find a lot of helpers here in the forum, some of them close to you.

Absolutely correct! :gut:

I have a special "Regler" (i don´t know the english word  )
You can find the right word at http://dict.leo.org/

100% ACK!
if the TS is reliable it shouild be ok, no matter if you have 6 or 12V. I would suggest you use an electronic regulator, take some spare bulbs (headlight, rearlight) and there will be no problem if the rest is in good condition. dont forget checking the coals in the generator. if there is a problem and you need spare parts, you can geht them from a dealer within one day.
if you need a disc brake is your own decision, for me the brakes of the TS are ok.

When I drove my TS with 6V, the rear light bulb often fused because of the vibrations. So I took a 12V bulb, it was not that bright but I havn't change a fused bulb until I switched to 12V VAPE. All other bulbs worked without any abnormality (maybe I hat to change the headlamp bulb once in six years).
