Original Connecting Rods for ES175/1 aren`t aviable anymore. But the original Connecting Rod can be replaced by one of the TS 250/1. They got the same dimensions the ES 175/1-rod has. The only difference ist the bearing of the gudgeon pin. Original a bronze sleeve is installed but the TS 250/1-rod got a neadle bearing. Additionally the TS 250/1-rod will be delivered with two bronze dishes, wich won`t be needed in the ES 175/1. Ask him for new genuine arts, he also got genuine connecting rods for the TS 250/1.

Please don't try replica connecting rods of the TS 250/1. Often they are signed for TS 250/1 but got a drilled crank pin in the big end bearing. These crank pins schouldn't be installed in a ES 175/1 because they will cause high engine vibrations.

Christof, thank you for your very detailed reply. It is most helpful. I need to ask some question to ensure I have everything clear.

So, I can use an original TS250/1 connecting rod, but you do not recommend using a replica connecting rod because they have a drilled big end crank pin and not a solid crank pin. Is this correct?

An original TS250/1 connecting rod will not have the correct bronze sleeve for my piston gudgeon pin. Will the needle roller bearing fit my gudgeon pin? Or will I have to modify the original TS250/1 to accept a bronze bush which will fit my gudgeon pin? If the needle roller bearing fits, then that is very good news.

Is this an original connecting rod kit, or is it a replica? :-

The one you mentioned above is a replica.
Originals are only on special demand :-)

You can use the TS250/1-rod with the neadle bearing without any changes. The gudeon pin of the ES-piston fits normaly perfect in those delivered neadle bearings, so the sleeve won't be needed anymore. After the installation of the TS-rod, you are also able to use 1:50 mixture!

Christof, your help and that of Gusi has been invaluable. I have ordered the correct con rod and a gasket set. The motor rebuild wil begin in appoximately 3 weeks and at the same time I shall strip the motorcycle down for repainting in the correct 1965 blue/grey colour with an ivory pin stripe.

Thank you both for your help. Restoring German motorcycles in the UK brings with it a set of problems which restorers of British motorcycles don't appreciate. Help such as yours is much appreciated.

Thanks again
Phil

You are welcome if you got any problems with the engine or the Crankshaft. If you are interessted in a rebuild of a grey/blue colored ES 250/1 then look at this threat:
