EDIT: Very sorry for the bad translation. The rubber chain hoses were missing when I got my SilverStar, and I have some new ones coming from the UK. I am getting chain slap from the rear wheel now when the engine is under strain I suspect because the chain tubes are missing, and the chain is adjusted properly. I want to replace the chain at the same time I replace the chain tubes. I have never had a motorcycle with the enclosed chain drive like the SilverStar and would like to know what chain is best for these bikes; a conventional chain, reinforced chain, or an o-ring chain. I have read that the o-ring chains are larger in diameter and could create frinction and excess heat in the chain tubes, and I'm looking for recommendations from the experts. In reading the responses so far, it seems most of you recommend the conventional 520-102 chain. I've always used Regina chains in the past and had good luck with them. Thank you, Donny

Can you please repeat your text without the (poor) translation tool?
Some of us are capable of at least reading English, so a translation should be no problem.

As far as I understood:
You want to purchase a new chain as you are replacing the rubber tubes anyway,
and you are looking for recommendations for O-ring chains like e.g REGINA chains (520 size/102 chain links).
And as O-ring chains are supposed to have slightly different measures you are wondering if this could lead to more friction in the tubes and more heat therefore.
Did I get that right? I guess so.
Let´s hear what the old and experienced ones say...

So, Leute, hat irgendjemand Erfahrungen mit O-Ringketten für die Silver Star?
Gibt es Empfehlungen?
Gibt es bei Verwendung von O-Ringektten Probleme mit den Kettenschläuchen?

Die meisten O Ringketten dürften zu breit bauen für die Schläuche.
Vom höhren sagen.....
Ketten mit Abdichtung der Rolle nur ohne Schläuche.
Verstärkte Maschinenketten ohne Abdichtung passen in die Schläuche.

Eigendlich gehört eine O-Ringkette auch nicht in einen Schlauch, oder besser gesagt es macht keinen Sinn. Die O-Ringe sollen dicht halten der Schlauch auch. Zusätzlich hält der Schlauch die Schmirre auf der Kette und nicht in der Hinterradfelge.
Ich würde, bei freier Wahl, eine normale oder verstärkte Kette mit Schlauch einer O-Ring Kette vorziehen.

Die O-Ringe halten das Schmiermittel in der Kette.
Der Schlauch hält nur den Dreck fern und verhindert dass das Schmiermittel (welches sich auf der Kette befindet) in der Gegend rumfliegt. Der wird nie Schmiermittel wieder in die Kette reinbringen und auch nicht verhindern, dass das austritt.


Also im Schlauch ja, aber nicht auf der Kette. Das schaffen die Schläuche nicht, die Schmiere wird so lange rumgeschleudert, bis die eine Ecke gefunden hat, wo die Kette nicht mehr vorbeikommt.

Also original war (zumindest bei meiner Silverstar) eine O-Ringkette drin.
Habe aber seither nur noch normale drin.

You are right Martin. I took a look at my chain today. It's a Renold (??) chain, and is a wide industrial O-Ringkette chain. I think that is why the previous owner removed the chain tubes.
