Hi, Deutsch unten
Sorry for luring you with a German title, but I cannot speak German- I hope sufficiently enough one can speak English? I can put translation beneath for relative ease.
For a little while my 251 has been stalling at idle and has seemingly been the case for maybe a year now but it seems most likely to happen if the bike has been ridden for a couple of miles. (When the engine is just started and I set off, all seems well). But simply after a couple of miles (without headlamp on) it will start to mis-behave at idle. I set idle to 1,300rpm, and even with a good battery with or without lights (but noticably with lights/indicators more), the bike's charge light blips slightly and the bike dies. Cleaning contacts at the regulator, rectifier, fuse box, coil terminals, main earth point under the seat, the ignition switch and other places) I have found I have increased the reliability but ultimately the bike isn't happy. Sometimes I can tell when the bike is unhappy and I can 'recover' the engine from stopping completely by increasing my RPM, but other times it simply seems to stop dead with no pre-warning.
I currently have also found that I have a 50mA draw with ignition off- is that of consequence? I have tried to remove components to identify the draw but cannot find. Is there a common place of corrosion or poor contact where this might be the case? Either way, with ignition on and the bike running 50mA should be quite inconsequential to the running of the bike, no?
I do have an electronic ignition unit, but that takes only 10mA but of course only when it is actively powered by the ignition.
Another thing of note, and I think it 'may' be connected is that when I start the bike quite often the idle is high (about 1,800rpm), and will stay there at that point with the charge light ON FULL. If I rev the bike to above 2,000rpm the light goes out and letting go of the throttle the RPM goes down to 1,300. Connected to my issue? For what it's worth I have also changed the regulator and rectifier with units that I know work, along with the generator components and brushes. I also know the battery IS charging and regulated correctly and my battery reads 12.56v.
Any ideas I could look for?
